How Many Treatments Will I Need?
There are many factors that determine the answer to this question. It can depend on the complexity of the problem, the overall health of the individual and how long the condition has existed. It is not uncommon for a chronic condition to create an imbalance in the system and if the cause of that condition has not been addressed then further disorders can manifest. This complicates the recovery process and creates further deterioration which can, over time, manifest into a serious life threatening illness.
However as a general guide if the problem is acute, i.e. the problem is recent and the healing response has been activated, then generally five to seven treatments (often less) should be enough to help the body to deal with the problem. With treatment, recovery can happen two to three times quicker than if the body was left without treatment.
Acute problems such as infections, colds, flu's etc are going to require short treatments of regular frequency. For example, 5 to 10 minutes every 1 to 2 hours or so. You cannot overdose when treating an acute condition but if you do too much the body will just ignore it. Its a bit like a container of water, you can only fill it so far and any overflow is wasted. You have to wait for the water to go down before adding some more.
Chronic problems are treated differently, much differently. For chronic conditions 40 to 45 minutes of treatment is more than sufficient for one session and sessions should be restricted to every second day. With auto-immune conditions it should be shorter, say 30 minutes. The reason for this is that when you re-energise a chronic compliant, you are awakening a sleeping giant and this needs to be done gradually otherwise you can experience what is known as the "Herxheimer Effect" or Healing Crisis.
The Healing Crisis occurs when a part of the body that has been neglected for many years has become over stimulated by the body's own healing responses. This creates a situation of too much healing happening too soon and the effect leads to the onset of acute symptoms. Not all people experience the Herxheimer Effect and it cannot do any long term harm. A healing crisis can also be considered a positive sign that the body is healing and detoxifying and will result in a quicker and more effective recovery. If acute symptoms do occur then the remedy is limit the treatment time to between 30 to 45 minutes and the symtoms will soon subside. The aim is to reduce the effects of a acute healing crisis and spread recovery over a longer time frame so that the intensity of the symptoms are reduced to a comfortable level.
Limiting scenar treatments to 45 minutes a session, ensures that the healing crisis is not stimulated thereby striking a balance between restoration of function and time needed to complete treatment. If treatment is carried out correctly the patient can experience the wonderful joy of knowing their body is repairing and restoring itself and is well on the way to recovery.
It is important to note that the "Herxheimer Effect" occurs only with first generation Scenar technology and is not an issue with second generation, Cosmodic. Cosmodic being a superior technology, does not invoke this over stimulated healing response in the body. See Frequently Asked Questions on Cosmodic for further information on the differences between Scenar and Cosmodic technologies.
So to sum up so far. For chronic conditions duration of treatment is limited to 45 minutes every other day. For auto-immune conditions it should be shorter, say 30 minutes. For acute conditions there is no limitation to the time or frequency but overdoing it is a waste of time as it has no additional benefit what so ever.
A general recommended treatment course for a chronic condition would be around 10 to 15 treatments as follows:
Weeks 1 & 2 – 3 times a week
Weeks 3 to 5 – Twice a week
Weeks 6 to 10 – Once a week
If further treatment is required then it will be once every two weeks. By the end of treatment the body should continue the healing process for a further 2 to 3 months.
This is a general guide only and it could be less as it all depends on the individual's response to the treatment. The therapist will have a better idea after say the third week of how the treatment is progressing and how much longer it should take.
There are also many factors that can contribute to treatment efficacy. For example, if a person has a reasonably healthy immune system and good vitality, then treatment should be shorter. If a person has low vitality or is trying to treat a chronic condition that they have had for over 20 years, then they can expect a longer treatment period. Also some conditions respond better to treatment than others. For example some organs of the body regenerate quicker than others.
Another extremely important factor determining treatment success is the degree to which a person takes responsibility for their condition and how they care of themselves during and after treatment. Taking responsibility for your health is crucial to a successful outcome and cannot be underestimated. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will certainly improve the degree and time of treatment. Eating healthy foods, drinking pure unadulterated water, exercise, fresh air, the right attitude all will all have an effect on the quality of the treatment and the degree of recovery.
